Gear Recommendations
A glimpse into the gear we use for outdoor adventures.
On-The-Go Gear
-
Ergobaby Omni 360 Carrier
It is extremely comfortable to wear, as it adjusts to all body types with the pull of back and underarm straps. Furthermore, it can be used from the newborn to the toddler stage - in multiple positions! Inward-facing, outward-facing, off the hip and on your back… Talk about versatility!
-
Osprey Poco Plus Carrier
It has an ample storage compartment on the bottom, with two zippered pockets up top. The hip belt pockets are ideal for grabbing and passing snacks back to your kid along the trail, and the mesh pockets on the side make for easy access to their small water bottles. It includes a built-in sun shade, plus a rain cover.
-
Trail Magik Carrier
A great option for little hikers who need a break from time to time. Durable and lightweight, it folds down to almost nothing (it can fit in a water bottle holder!) and can be pulled out when the need arises. Simply attach it to your backpack’s waist belt and padded straps, adjust the straps and carry along the trail. (Use code "mamanurture10" for 10% off )
-
Thule Yepp Mini Bike Seat
An excellent front-mounted bike seat for young children, ages 9 months to 3 years. Strap them into the 5-point safety harness seat and foot rests, and they’ll love the ride. It has multiple adapters, so you can move it around from one bike to another!
-
Shotgun Kids Bike Seat
The next level up: the Shotgun! It can be used for older children, ages 2 to 5 years old. Its design is quite compact, including a small seat with foot rests and tiny handlebars that adjust onto yours. It’s easier to maneuver for the rider, and creates a more engaging experience for the co-rider.
-
Thule Chariot
The real MVP. These chariots allow you to do it all with your child in tow: stroll, jog, bike and ski! The attachments are easy to remove and install, and it folds down well for travel. It includes a clip-on cover for sunny days, and a full-length waterproof cover for rainy/snowy ones.
-
BOB Jogging Stroller
Hardy AF. This jogging stroller has large, durable wheels that can easily cruise down gravel roads and dirt trails, as well as a great suspension system to make for a smoother ride. The seat can recline all the way down, making for some epic naps. Plus, there is ample storage underneath.
Camping & Travelling Gear
-
KidCo Pea Pod
Although not recommended for infants under the age of 1, most of us have felt comfortable putting our babies to sleep in it before their first birthday, always maintaining an eye on them throughout the night! The entire set-up is extremely lightweight, including a firm pad and a breathable canopy with access from both sides. It’s very useful for keeping rollers/crawlers/walkers contained during their sleep.
-
Phil & Ted Lobster Chair
First and foremost, it’s pretty compact! It can fold down and be stuffed into the outer mesh pocket of your backpacking pack. When it’s time to eat, pull it out and adjust it to a table that is flush underneath. It comes with an adjustable harness and can hold up to 37lbs, so you bet your baby/toddler is safe in there.
-
Summer Infant Pop 'N Sit Portable Booster Chair
This booster chair is great for camping, as it can double up as your child’s camping chair. It does not require a table for support, so it can be used anywhere along the trail! Furthermore, it packs down nicely for a backpacking trip.
-
Morrison Outdoors Sleeping Bag
If you’ve ever asked yourself: “What should my baby wear to sleep while camping?”… THIS IS IT! This sleeping bag is cozy as can be, and super lightweight to boot! You have the choice of synthetic or down material (based on the temperatures you camp in!), and both models have a fleece neck for extra comfort. The two-way zipper makes middle-of-the-night diaper changes super easy! (Use code "mamanurture10" for 10% off )
Clothing Gear
-
Wee Woollies Base Layers
This small Canadian company sources the highest quality merino wool from New Zealand, to create bright and beautiful base layers for babies and children. Truly: nothing compares to the feel and comfort of merino! Be it summer or winter, this material does an excellent job at keeping your kid’s body temperature stable.
-
Patagonia Infant Micro D Bunting Suit
A good outer layer for spring and fall, and a GREAT mid-layer for winter. Given that this fleece suit isn’t too thick, it fits comfortably over base layers and below bunting suits, providing the perfect amount of warmth. The full-length zippers make for quick diaper changes, and the fold-over cuffs provide coverage for baby’s hands.
-
Patagonia Baby Micro D Crew & Bottoms
Once your child is walking and potty-learning, this two-piece fleece outfit will come in handy! It is the same soft, warm and quick-drying Micro D polyester fleece - simply more convenient for older tots!
-
Patagonia Infant Hi-Loft Down Sweater Bunting
Head-to-tow down. There was no fear of our babies getting cold while in these matching outfits! They are thick, well-insulated, windproof and have two full-length zippers for easy on/off. The dream!P.S. They are purposefully designed to be longer than average, with fold-over mitt and foot cuffs to help keep your child’s extremities protected.
-
Patagonia Baby Snow Pile One-Piece
Once the babes get more mobile, this one-piece suit is the perfect outer layer. Since it is fully waterproof, seam-sealed and insulated, it is designed to stay warm even when wet… And you better believe these toddlers can get wet! It has elastic mitt and foot cuffs, with an additional elastic foot strap to prevent snow from entering.
-
MEC Heritage Newt Suit
Durable as can be! This suit provides the best coverage on rainy days, with fully taped seams and a DWR finish to repel water and mud. The hood has a brim and elastic sides to keep droplets away from your child’s face. Additionally, it has a reflective trim for better visibility.
-
Stonz Mitts
STONZ has self-proclaimed these to be “the warmest mittens on the market”. They are extremely easy to put on, and most importantly: to stay on!… Thanks to the adjustable toggles. Furthermore, they are both waterproof and windproof.
